P6 Euroquiz 2014
Very well done to our P6 Team who gained a highly respectable 43 out of a
possible 60 points in the 2014 Euroquiz at City Chambers on Wednesday
5th March and had great fun. There was an exciting three way tie at the end between
Stewart's Melville, St George's and Bruntsfield, with Bruntsfield taking
first place. Congratulations to all! Thank you to Mrs Nowell for
accompanying and to all the event organisers. We took a few snaps to mark the occasion!

P6 Netball Success
Thank you to all the parents who supported P6 netball girls in a Round Robin tournament at Firrhill High School on Friday 28th February. Thank you to Clem Friend and Susan McConville for updates and photographs.
"The P6 girls did really well at their netball tournament on Friday and they were undefeated in all of their games. They played 6 games in total and won 3 and drew 3.

The whole team played really well and were very well behaved, thanking all of the refs and other teams at the end.
A huge thanks to netball coach Emmylou Harris for all the hard work she has put in to coaching them." Clem Friend

Hour of Code Certificates
Well done to Reuben, Finn and Adam in P6C who managed to complete their Hour of Code Challenge in only 45 minutes today! Many more would have achieved a certificate if we had more time in school so we hope the others will log on at home to continue their challenges, too!

Junior Award Scheme Scotland P6 Sciennes
All P6 pupils have been issued with:
Additional record sheets are available and we have advised pupils to ask coaches, club leaders and mentors to sign the sheets after a number of weeks, rather than asking for signatures weekly.
The Junior Award Scheme Scotland (JASS) is an accredited learning programme, celebrating wider achievement, for young people (P6-S2). Sciennes and Tollcross Primary Schools have been implementing this scheme since we piloted it in 2009.
The concept emerged from a discussion during a Sciennes P7 visit to Lagganlia between Alice Brown, Gael Logan and Barry Hewitt who came up with the idea to set up a 'Duke of Edinburgh' style award scheme for upper primary pupils. The scheme has since been developed into a city wide programme.
There are three levels (bronze, silver and gold), each requiring a higher degree of commitment. Each level also includes four sections to be completed:
For further details of this programme in City of Edinburgh please contact Lynn Molleson at lynn.molleson@FOTA.org.uk or phone 0131 467 4753.
- a JASS folder, kept in school and used to record evidence of achievements
- a letter explaining the programme for parents/carers
- a questionnaire to help pupils plan how they will achieve the JASS award
- a record sheet with an explanation on the reverse for coaches and mentors
